Hong Kong / China Bowls Tournaments

  • March 21, 2018

Barwell Indoor Bowling Club member Joe Dawson (Leicestershire) along with team mates Daniel Seabourne (Norfolk), Charlie Butcher (Essex), Scott Walton (Yorkshire), Emma Cooper (Sussex), Jessica Eley (Hertfordshire), Donna Knight (Oxfordshire) and Rebecca Wigfield (Northamptonshire) were endorsed by Bowls England to represent their country in the 2018 21st Tiger Bowls World Invitation in Hong Kong (10th – 11th March 2018) and the 7th China Open held in Shenzhen and Zhuhai (13th – 17th March 2018). These are prestigious tournaments set to become signature bowling events in the international bowls calendar and as a club, we are extremely proud of Joe for being selected to take part.

In the Tiger Bowls World Invitation event the men made a valiant effort putting in some excellent performances but unfortunately just missed out on getting through the knock out stages. The ladies were successful in winning the Tiger Bowls Plate in the runners up event.

In the China Open, the men made it through the qualifying rounds to reach the quarter-finals but unfortunately lost in a very close game against ZTSD (local Hong Kong Stars). The ladies team won at the China Open defeating a rink from the Philippines in the final.

Overall, the trip was a great experience for all involved and B.I.B.C. congratulates the England team members on their achievements in these tournaments.
